Hi guys! It's been hell. I have almost lost Faith like three times now. Every time I put her outisde with the rest of my flock she is eggbound within 48 hours. No joke. Three times now. i don't know why and i dont know why just her. She did fine outside until the weather got nasty. That was the first time, when she passed the soft membrane egg with no shell. Soon as i put her on the heating pad, she passed it within 20 minutes. After i was sure she was ok and could potty i put her back out with the flock and she was good for about a day. Later that afternoon i saw her standing inj the grass byherself alone and just standing there I picked her up and her vent was red and sort of distended....I put her back in and put her on the hot pad again, same thing. passed it in twenty minutes or so....This last time, she had been outside for two days and happened again. So she has been inside for four days now. I crushed up calcium in yogurt for her. Also as soon as she passes the "egg" she acts herself again, talking, eating etc...But she never lays an egg. Nothing. I just don't get it.. Like I said she has been inside for four days now and hasn't gone eggbound not once, nor has she shown the slightest inclination to lay an egg either. Im completely baffled. I dunno what the heck to do. Im scared to put her outside, but my husband is gonna divorce me if i don't do something with her (not really, but he aint happy about it either) Strange silly bird. HAs anyone ever heard of this before? Other than that my life is finally mellowing back out affter the holidays....Daughter went back to college, yeah I have a college age daughter even though I act like one myself. Weather here is cruddy and I'm about tobring all my birds in for the winter. Boy wouldn't my husband be tickled to pieces aboutthat! Hee hee.I should. I'm going to wind up being like those elderlies that have a million cats, but I will be the crazy chicken lady instead.
But enough about me, how is everyone else?

PhantomChikkkenz - my brother from a different mother LOL! Give Baby Sterllng a great big hug. I completely understand what you were saying about hectic work schedule. Hey it happens. Plus your band stuff too, and holidays. Thank god their over. I hate to sound like the Grinch (my personal hero though) but I really am glad their over. you asked a few days ago when different peoples roosters started to crow.... well my three are Gold Laced Cochins and they started exactly at 8 weeks. Sounded like New Years Horns. I had videos but lost them when my media was erased off my card. Be sure to get and SAVE your mini roos first crow's you'll be greatful for it later....

Hey Theresa, my sister from another mister! Haha!

I really hope Faith gets over this. I wish I had some ideas, but being a relatively new chicken person, I'm completely baffled by it, and have no experience with such things. I must say, though.. She looks absolutely adorable in the bath!

As far as other things, the D'uccle babies are growing like weeds! I'm pretty sure Stork Bird is a female Lemon Blue MGB, and my little cross-beaked Sebright pullet is finding much success in bossing them all around... Even though 4 of the 5 D'uccles are roosters.

Also, how's your pup doing? Roscoe is taking his new job as a rooster foot warmer very seriously:

Pit Bulls are just so viscous, aren't they?

I took this just a few minutes ago. Check out the comb on little mister feather duster over here! He's growing and crowing like crazy!

I guess us animal lovers have to be something different with all the stuff, worry, late nights, vet bills etc. that we have to put up with, not to mention the loss of one or cherished pets. But the world would be so boring without these wonderful, fetching and gorgeous animals (all inclusive) that we put up with and cherish. Whahoo for all the animal lovers who love and !protect them

that is literally the coolest thing. what an amazing dog. I have to constantly watch the dogs around the chickens. Is Roscoe a puppy? did he grow up with the chickens? I feel like ours were too old to ever really accept our chickens. and after my dashound BEAR killed one of the baby chicks, i couldn't trust any of them again. Seriously amazes me that yours could get along so well. love it!

Thanks, SO much, Kyle!

Roscoe actually just turned 9 years old in October, although he has always and will always be a puppy! He's shown no signs of aging at all, other than a little bit of white in the face.

He'd never even seen a chicken until I brought one home on a whim back in July, but I wasn't really worried about him trying to harm any of them. I've had him since he was 8 weeks old, and he's been around other dogs, cats, arachnids, rabbits, every reptile you could possibly imagine (including Cobras, Gaboon Vipers, etc), and he's always been super sweet to all of them. I'd like to think I raised him right, but he's super spoiled as well. He's incredibly un-canine, which has something to do with it, I think. Basically, nobody will ever convince him he's not a human. Hahaha. He's unnaturally smart, talks ALL the time, and we constantly have to change our vocabulary to keep him from figuring out what we're talking about. It's ridiculous.

He's been the only constant in my life since 2004, and has been with me through everything, good and bad. The best companion I have ever known.

Another interesting thing, is that whenever the chickens get 'roam time' in the backyard, he hangs out with them as part of the flock. He's out there in the middle of it, doing his own version of pecking around, and he flat out refuses to come back into the house until every last one of his birds is inside and accounted for.

So seriously, that's a massive compliment. Thank you!!! :)

PS: I actually have a pic of him and the kitty he grew up with, as well as him and my fiancee's Corgi mix playing chicken (back when I had just 4).

Thank you!!

And yup, he does. All 6 of my roosters do! Hahaha. I might have 7 or 8 roosters, actually. Too early to tell what my baby Serama and Sterling (my baby Silkie) are just yet. I've currently got 13 house chickens at the moment, although I'm probably going to rehome most of my D'uccles soon, as 4 of them are roosters!

Wow!

I have one rooster, Finn, living inside. Ive been having trouble with him being very aggressive lately. He will chase you down the hall and start pecking your feet! I started a thread about it but I just got negative answers, telling me to make him dinner. Have you had any problems with this?
