people with house chickens

Your right abt the human v. Feathered/furry kids. Sure is nice just having feathered and furries at home!
They do talk back and want to be spoiled but it doesn't bankrupt you! Crazy Lucy is somethin else for her cookies. I
give her stale nilla wafers lol She is the only hen that isnt broody and Russell drives us all up a tree lol All that horny crowing!!!
Lucy goes outside and right into the pen so funny...I told her to come out, but she just stood there till I found a worm.
its real wet out because it rained this morning so I am throwing down seed in a few places for the girls to forage. Then she
followed me right back in the house.

This is Crazy Lucy in the chicken room :)

I am LOVING all the cuteness!! The stork on crack is absolutely a hoot...wish I could storksit :D

Thanks :) she is beyond hilarious! She spends all of her time (when she's not in her cage) following us around and making dinosaur noises. If I leave the room without her noticing, she will call out and run from room to room until she tracks me down. Hahaha

Hey, guys. On Sunday we had to bring in Marcy because I saw her with a ton of blood surrounding her. The boys plucked out a ton of feathers from her side and that's where she was bleeding from. We brought her inside and gave her a bath, and she is doing great. Finn really seems to like her too, so that's awesome!

Last pic is him on top of her cage. He roosted on there today!

We just hatched a new baby!! Helen had a successful hatch of one of Daisy's eggs it is quite a nosey little fluffy light yellow baby. Hiding under Helen lol. I had to move Helen, baby, and the remaining intact eggs in the nest to the brooder in the livingroom. We had an incident with the other hatching egg. Our weird RIR Lucy gets quirky abt laying her egg in the nest box and I am assuming it was her cold hoppers that stepped on the other baby during hatch and killed it. It had its beakout the shell already even...but dried up before I checked on it. Not sure it would have made it anyway. She had stepped on this same egg last week and cracked it...the chick looked ok though. So keeping all broody nesters away from the RIR.

Hey guys! My account turned 5 years old today! Woo-hoo! I'm attempting to encourage my chicken to lay eggs. Any advice on where I can put a nestbox in my indoor chicken's cage? It is kind of small so I'm hoping to put it in the best spot possible. If I put it in either of the 2 back corners it will get pooped on from the roost perch. If I put it either of the 2 front corners I have to find a new spot for her bottom food bowls. Then i had this idea to put up off of the roost on the one side and then it wouldn't affect her bottom space. However I'm not sure if a chicken will lay in a nest that is off the ground. I can't cut the bars of the cage so I can't hang one on the outside. Oh and how big should a bantam chickens nest box be and should it be covered? I want to make one for her but I need ideas. I was thinking about just a box with a hole in it and a removable lid. Let me know what you think guys!

Congrats on your hatch! Isn't it exciting??? It blows my mind every time that these little ones go from an orange-ish blob to a fully feathered, peeping, walking, flapping, fuzzy ball of cuteness in such an absurdly short amount of time. Sorry to hear about the little one :( Phantom decided to try and play mommy by sitting on one of the eggs while Polka Dot went to go get a drink, and he put a crack in it.. I'll know in a few days if this one will hatch or not. Last time I candled it, things were looking normal, so I'm hopeful.

Whatcha gonna name your new baby? :)

uhh your all killing me I want to hatch babies!!!!! I just don't think I have a rooster! not sure if my neighborsand husband would be ok with that lol
