Pepper did not come to perch last night. I couldn't find her after work. I searched and searched. I went out again this morning and found her laying. I brought her inside. She can stand a bit and can take a few steps. I'm thinking a limb may of hit her. She's on crate rest. I gave her Nutrish and some water. She has access to wild salmon & fresh tomato diced and fresh water. She is fairly alert...doesn't squawk in any kind of discomfort. I am thinking time and rest can heal her. Any thoughts? Has this ever happened to you? She doesn'tseemed distress. Should I syringe feed her some mish?

Hello,
To clarify, you found her laying down or laying an egg?

I would start her on some poultry vitamins that include riboflavin (vitamin B2) or 1/4 tablet of B complex daily added to some feed. Check her legs to see if they look normal and straight if you stand her up. Look for any weakness in either leg, swelling, or bruising. Get her in a small area close to food and water. Feel of her for weight loss, or any enlargement of her lower belly. Feel of her crop to see if it is full, firm, or puffy, in case of a crop disorder. What do her droppings look like? Heatstroke, being kept from food and water by other, or an injury might be a problem. In some hens with reproductive disorders, they may not feel like walking or may separate themselves.

Everything feels ok. She just doesn't seem to want to eat

Have you been able to get any water or electorlytes into her beak? If you try to hand feed her some cooked egg, wet chicken feed or canned cat food, will she take it? If she is not eating or drinking anything, she will not last long. Are you interested in getting a necropsy by your state vet to find out what was wrong? Has she done any better today at standing?
