when do u back off the temperature in the brooder???? these girls are 4 weeks I guess

You should be lowering the temp by 5 degrees each week. If you did that, then they are probably ready to be without the heat now.

I don't count them as fully feathered until about 6 weeks.

Some feather out faster or slower but I like to give them their heat anyway until about 6 weeks. I let them have it available until 8 weeks or so in winter. They just don't have much meat on their bones and aren't as hardy as a spring chick IMO.

I start letting them go out of the coop at three weeks of age if in summertime (to a very tiny covered run so they don't get lost), but wintertime they have to wait until 6 weeks.

First week of life: 90-95
second: 85-90
third: 80-85
fourth: 75-80
fifth: 70-75
sixth: if fully feathered wean to off

Glad you could join the flock! X2 with ChickensAreSweet I usually aim to have them off heat by 6 weeks. All this is weather dependant and I try to go on what my chicks are telling me too with how they are acting.

The other posters have given you some good advice. It is generally best to lower the temperature in the brooder by about 5 degrees F each week until the chicks are fully feathered. Once they have all of their feathers, they should be able to withstand temperatures as low as 40 degrees F, though they certainly appreciate warmer temperatures.
