My chicks are now 2 weeks old, and I'd like to introduce a perch inside their box. There seems to be alot of info on perch height and size for grown chickens, but I can't seem to find any guidance for chicks. Right now, I have a section of 1" dowel secured about 3-4" above the litter.

Any advice?

That sounds about right. I used a X-pen to brood in and had sticks from the yard that I used for roosts. I would raise them after they had no trouble getting on the lower roost. Okay I had about three or four roosts of various hights in there.

That's about right. I put mine an inch or so above the litter. They loved it.

I ended up lowering the perch so it's 1-2" above the litter, so the chicks can actually step up onto it. After I placed each one of them on the perch to "practice", I came back later today to find one of the chicks resting on it voluntarily! This one particular chick, Pinky, has been on and off of it at least two or three times today. Hopefully the rest will follow...

Thanks for the input.

Ron
