Maybe a bit premature but we wanted to ask about our ladies and them Perching.

We only brought the Hens today and they are 4 ISA Brown Pulletts at POL.

No idea what thy were kept in before but we have a pre built mass produced coop with the run attached. Just been out to check on the girls and rather then use there Pirches they are huddled at the back of the coop. The pirches are only an inch max off the floor and was wondering whether this could be the problem? or is the problem us and we need to let them settle and they will sort themselves out?

Many thanks

Paul.

They might not have been kept of roosts before you had them. They could have been kept on wire caging, or solid ground and had no access to roosts, which would be my best guess. So they are confused. They just have to get used to their surroundings. Place them on their roost each night and eventually, they will see that that is what they are supposed to do and start to do it themselves. Don't be surprised if it takes a while, though.

And,

Don't be surprised if they do not use a perch. I have tried since mine were young to get them to use the perch...I have tried every shape and size and only two out of 12 use the perches
