I agree, I think I would just let her rest. I don't think I would irrigate anymore either. Why would you think there's neurological damage? What do you think would cause that?

don't know, but the head shake is fairly regular. Hen in hen house, no issues with other hens. thought it ight have been from the stress of the egg binding... but it will probably be due to mites...

might not have to be ears, could just be mites around the head - those tricky SOB's tend to go where its hard for animals to get rid of them - one reason why fleas like the top of the head and around the neck. time to spray to make sure!

i get the dust at TSC...i didnt know it was ok to break the egg like that....good job! was the shell hard? what were her symptoms that made u think she was eggbound?

sorry to be so late! Hen is recovered. No issues in hen house. Egg bound symptoms were hunched posture, straining, and a very pitiful moaning - no other words can describe it. I understand that breaking eggs inside the hen can be extremely dangerous - guess it's a good thing that I didn't know that then

Perhaps because the egg was so close to the opening that none of the yolk got inside the hen to cause yolk peritonitis...
