I, too, have a similar plan that we are going to use for our pen, but you have some modifications that we need to incorporate. Did you use 2 or 3 - 6' x 16' panels for the top? Nicely done!

Wow, that is awesome! I may have to copy ya... LOL The Loxit rings sounds great, and I am tired of replacing zip ties and the fencing wire works well, but is annoying to work with.

We don't get much snow here, but at times we can get on average about 10". In 2000 we woke up one January morning with 24" on the ground. We have gotten 6" to 8" of solid ice at times, never know around here. I just wanted to be prepared just in-case. I noticed with the recent 5" snow we had that it would slide right off the truckers tarp after about 2" of accumulation. I really don't worry about the uncovered part not sliding off as I'm pretty confident that the framing structure will hold a substantial snow/ice load.

I used 4 52"x16' panels for the top and 1 cut in half and to shape for each end.

It's kinda sad to see the hoop coop and my other coop/run empty right now due to going in a different direction with chickens. I re-homed my girls to a very good friend of mine(I still get to see them several times weekly)so that I can concentrate on raising the heritage breed of RIR's instead of the regular hatchery stock. This is the first time in over 20yrs that I've not had any chickens in my possession. I do miss them. My new chicks will be here in May, can't wait!!!

Wow! That's a terrific design. It looks really nice.

I've never heard of heritage RIR's. Is that the same with gardening, like heritage tomatoes?

In a nutshell, the Heritage RIR's are the original ones dating back to the mid 1800's. They were a true dual purpose bird for meat and eggs. The newer strain/line were engineered more toward egg production and are smaller.

Here is an example of the Heritage RIR's

And here is an example of the hatchery/utility RIR's

See the difference?

I just wanted to clarify, those aren't my birds. Mine won't be here until May. Those birds belong to Pine Grove, a member here at BYC. I just posted the pics as examples of the differences.
