Our birds picked up lice at the fair last year. Apparently we didn't get rid of them all so we're retreating now. Can anyone remind me about Permethrin 10:
1. What is the egg withdrawal period?
2. When is the second dose due?
3. Since we have twice the flock size can I just make a dip and dunk them (obviously protecting their head) instead of trying to spray each one? And if so, should the dosage be altered?

Trying to get them and the coop sprayed today and our livestock agent is obviously off today. TIA!!

I tried the DE and got rid of a lot of them, but still saw some mites so yesterday I went to TSC and bought some P10, diluted the solution for 2.5 gal in a 5 gal bucket, and dunked my whole flock. I'll let you know how it turns out in a week, when I'm going to reapply p10.

Even with the dilution, the liquid was still very milky looking.

The dunking didn't seem to affect them, one of my hen still laid an egg after the dunking session. Couldn't really find information online how long to dunk, so I held my chickens in for 15-30 secs with head about the solution. We'll see how it turns out.

What I did: Filled up 5 gal bucket 1/2 way (2.5 gal) with 1.5 ML Permethrin. Held chicken feet with left hand, held back/wings of chicken with right and slowly dip the chicken, making sure that chicken's head did not go into the solution.

Following up after a week. There is less visible louse mite on my treated chickens. I did a second dip this week. Seems that my non-laying hens were not affected by mites/louse as much, probably because laying hen has more moisture around the vent area and that's where I've found bugs crawling/eggs.

Dipping the chickens in for 15-25 seconds did not affect my laying hen's productivity.

Only reason why I dipped 2nd week was because a few of my hens had very bad case of louse in the vent area, so everyone went for a double dip.

Next week I'll just be spraying as follow-up.
