Ah, ok. I guess I think of the place I get my feed as the feed store, generically...

That being said, my local not-TSC feed store is not all that bad, price-wise. I should check to see if they have this in stock next time I go. (I get the bedding there.)

I have 2 LFS. They are actually competitively priced even compared to Amazon most of the time. And they are local family owned (although corporations do employ locals as well). And if I find a much better price on something and ask, the owner will match or reduce her price IF she can.

OK, so today when processing two cockerels did have stuff crawling on them...

Very small and fast. Daughter described them as red, to me they looked like really little brown ants. This was upon very close inspection, have never seen anything on the girls that sit on my lap. Have seen those boys dirt bathe as well. Didn't look like an infestation by any means.

That's how I first discovered my flock had lice, processing my first cockerel.
Goggle images of lice and mites to help you ID what you have.......tho the permethrin spray would work for either.

If it's mites you'll have to spray the coop too, really well-all the cracks and crevices, if lice just treat the birds. One way to check for the night feeding mites that spend the day hiding in the coop is to go out well after dark (the later the better) and wipe a white paper towel along the bottoms of roosts....if you see red smears, it's mites.

I've seen several threads recently about leg mites, something I've never had here. Individually greasing all the birds in a larger flock seems like a miserable experience for everyone, especially repeatedly. Anyone use permethrin spray? Results? There's always Ivermectin, but if permethrin spray works, that would be great. Mary

I just found one of mine with them and I'm debating on how to proceed. Sigh...

Maybe we could do an online side-by-side experiment where you treat one way, and i do another?

I've got 48 birds right now, and would really hate treating legs individually, repeatedly, with some oily product or other. May leg mites never arrive here! I'm very interested in your results, in case it does happen. Mary
