Permit for Coturnix quail in Missouri?

A friend of mine got into quail this year and she chose Coturnix because she didn't need a permit. You do need a permit for Bobwhites. But anyway, I'm 99.9% sure that you don't need a permit for Coturnix quail, but please do double-check!

I realize this won't help the OP in Missouri, but I just wanted to comment on Michigan's rather convoluted rules regarding quail and pheasants.

Do you need a permit in Michigan -- maybe, maybe not. It all depends on a lot of factors -- what kind of birds, how many, what purpose. For non-native quail, you do not need a permit. Your coturnix, buttons, moutain quail, etc., are fully legal. With bobwhite, it depends on whether or not you intend to keep more than 12 birds, and what purposes you keep them for, whether commercial or for personal use. With pheasant's, all of the exotics are fine without permit, anything that might be construed to be a Ringneck needs a permit.

Aside from the permit requirements, there are also requirements for cage size and number of birds. These are just basically common sense requirements so that the birds have enough space and don't eat each other.

Good grief! You think it would just be permit or no permit. I guess I'll have to try to call someone from my state. Better do it soon cause I got eggs coming next week.

Hi, I live here in missouri. I used to have coturnix quail and no you do not need a permit for them. You only have to have permits for northern bobwhites, and ringneck pheasants. I 100% sure. I have even checked cause I was looking to get bobwhites.

So did anyone find out if we have to have any kind of permits for Coturnix or Button Quail in Missouri?? Or is there now that it is 2015? I really would like to have about 5-10 tops of 15 quail at a time but would like to be able to raise them a couple as pets but mainly eggs for sure and possibly meat (not release them, especially since I live in city limits).. Are they required to have a certain amount of space (we recently moved to the city, I use to own my own poultry business with occasional help from my parents but I have raised 50+ chickens of my own at a time in the country but now that we live in the city dad frowns at the idea of chickens because they destroy the grass and I think are suppose to be 100 feet away from the neighbors, so I am thinking about trying something smaller perhaps that would work)? Also as far as selling/giving away eggs or birds is that legal without a permit? Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!
