My husband was clearing brush and debris when he heard this funny noise, sort of like a bird. He scanned the trees above looking for the source, but couldn’t identify what or where from which it was coming. Resuming his task, he parted a small cluster of cedar trees to remove them. Low and behold, there sat a beautiful broody red hen with a large clutch of eggs. Now keep in mind, our wooded rural area is predator country. This little mother hen sat and laid egg after egg for at least 18 days in incremental weather, freezing temperatures, predators (I.e. cougar, bear, fox, coyote, hawk, raccoons etc.), and who knows what else. In spite of the possible perils, she bravely hunkered down on her precious offspring in the face of great adversity.

She bravely remained calm while facing the waves of uncertainty.
My husband carefully gathered the little brave mother hen and her brood bringing them to our home in a warm snug dog crate. She is now safely housed in what I am calling her “Penthouse”, built especially for her. It may not be much to look at by human standards, but a palace compared to her recent dwellings. She is warm, well fed, with her eggs cuddled under her protective blanket of wings and feathers on a bed of straw. She is surrounded by a secure fenced coop and run. If agreeable in the future, she has a flock of chickens to cluck about her adventures.

This mother hen is a great example for us all.
As we face the adversity of these uncertain times. As our patriot forefathers did, together stand strong with determined resolution under God with faith and freedom for all. Bravely support your neighbors and community, doing all you can to help others in spite of what is encountered with tenacity and a calm spirit. Remembering that a cord of many threads can not easily be broken. Much like our little red hen Penny did for her next generation, we can stand strong together side-by-side!

Beautifully said! And what a lovely story... I would love to find a treasure like that!! Could you post a pic of her?

Could you post a pic of her? Here she is! I think she’s a Rhode Island Red. What do you think?
