I'm nearly done with the coop (just needs exterior painting, now) and am on vacation all next week. Soooo, I'm gonna need a lot of pine shaving bedding for the new coop, and also to change out the old coop for the six chicks which will leave the brooder this coming week. So will the two Cayuga ducklings, going to the same run and their own little duckhouse I built. 'Bout time to get more layer feed for the Big Girls and grower feed for the Little Girls and ducklings.

This is the same feed store that has such a well-labled collection of bins o' chicks. Even ducklings, and occasionally goslings.

Here's the miracle: even after I looked into every single bin (because I could NOT stop myself from LOOKING), I still departed the feed store with only pine shavings and feed!

Oh, but there were two Rouen ducklings ALL alone in one huge bin.... and a few Cayugas and Khaki Campbells in another. But the two lonely little Rouens....

The clerk mentioned them to me, saying, "Poor little things, they need a good home, you know."

(Do they know me or what??)

And I replied, "Yes, they do. I see a family walking up to the door. THEY probably need ducklings!"

And so I made it home without babies. Went immediately into the bathroom and told the chicks and ducklings that I'd just resisted the urge to bring some of their siblings (or cousins, perhaps) home with me. Betsy - the most intrepid of the six - just pecked at a paint spot on my jeans. I don't think she's aware of the enormity of the situation.

I have been to TSC three times in the past week and resisted the impulse to bring home banties... .and duckies.... and sexlinks.... and assorted straight run.
I really really really want some astrolorps and marans and HE wants more EEs.
They weren't in the assortment.
I DID however call my daughter who has banties and describe all the cute banties in the bin. Life for her is a bit complicated at the moment, so she wasn't buying either.
The 3x4 brooder was finished today in hopes that the incubator will produce a crop of EEs:) I have hopes!!

gryeyes I know what you mean! Thursday Eva and I took a 100+ mile trip to The Feed Store in Charlestown Indiana for a bag of DE(closest place to us we could find it).

The Feed Store had some really nice looking chicks and the bins were neat and clean, unlike some places we've seen. They had some Brahmas, but only the Light colored ones.We were tempted but really would like one of the other colors. It was hard, but we managed to resist!. Oh well, maybe next year!

If I had a country home I would already have so many animals, good for you for being able to contol yourself;) When I get a farm everything will be mini and I will charge people to see my mini farm lol!

I went in last week to "look" at ducklings. Lucky for me, they were out. I looked at the chicks and left without buying any. (I have 10 chicks in the brooder that I hatched 2 weeks ago, so I have my chick fix)
