I am finally admitting my addiction. I NEED more chickens. So I am trying to figure how to finagle enough space to have my Delawares, my BBS Orps and one other breed- I love the looks of black Americaunas, but I am also very attracted to partridge coloring. Everyone touts Barred Rocks for their personalities and egg laying ability, but what about Partridge Rocks? Are they as friendly? Good egg layers? Are there breeders out there close to me?

No not a dumb question just there are so few breeders they are imposslibe to get from a breeder. I got mine from Mt Healthy which is recommened by some top breeders of chickens they carry. I am very happy with mine. You can read their blog has pics and story of them from day 1. Only Barred and White rocks are common to get from breeders they other colors are much harder to find from a breeder.

Anything partridge I've found isn't terribly common. I gave up on trying to get partridge cochin hens and we're going to see what our roo can do with the little red hens. I would love to maybe switch over to partridge rocks, but few hatcheries have them. We got a partridge cochin roo and we fell in love with his coloring! I love the way the sun glints metallic green on his wings and tail feathers. He always gets compliments.

It's kind of odd really, since partridge is supposed to be one of the natural, wild colors

New for 2010- MPC has them starting this year!!

You have to wait until Feb. I'm sad-they didn't get any new bantam breeds. D; I think they should have bantam sexlinks.

I didn't realize they were that hard to find- that makes me even more interested. Thank you, everyone, for the answers and help-and boy I bet that partridge cochin is gorgeous- wow!

Hey, Cher, you out there?

I have a young pair of PRs. I find them just as friendly as my BRs. The little rooster is just a tad bossy to the other little birds, but very sweet to me.
They are absolutely gorgeous!
If you have a chance, you should get a few.
