Hi Fellow Chicken People
I need some help please!! I have these little things leaving ugly bite marks on my chickens. What are they and how do I get rid of them? My poor flock is not a happy flock at the moment. South African based.

My first suggestion is to talk with other chicken owners in your area as the parasitic insects you have may be very different from other regions.

Is that an ant specie? Sorry, my eyesight is far from good even with glasses. You could try using a poultry dust for mites and lice. If it is another type of insect it may be possible to use insecticides to destroy them, but it would have to be applied where the birds can not get at it; which may be self-defeating.

Talking to other locals would be your best bet-even a local veterinarian. Possibly someone at a feed store or other store that deals with poultry. Good luck.
