My landlord had the house we live in sprayed by Terminix for flies and ladybugs. they will not provide me with a list of chemicals that they use. Can anyone tell me how long the chickens should not be allowed to free range?
If it was just the house that was sprayed it shouldn't affect the chickens.....they mainly use residuals so it will adhere to the house....if your chickens are around the house , then I would keep them away from the structure for about a week. I wouldn't think that the laws would allow anything harmful to the environment, and if they did a warning would've been issued to you.
My place of work (fish research facility) gets treated periodically. I brought a juvenile chicken in where it consumed a lot of dead insects. It was dead within 24 hours. Decline was rapid and underway before we even left the building. Snakes and frog also dying when coming up against building. Route of uptake for latter two not known for certain but skin likely in addition to ingestion like for chicken. Applicator later indicated pesticide used not cause of chicken loss. I call BS on that one.
Welcome! Very few pesticides are safe or approved for use around poultry! I would assume it's unsafe, and that dead/dying insects and other critters eaten by the birds are also unsafe. For a very long time!
I'm willing to bet that your landlord would be legally required to give you that information, and I'd want to know, for my sake too. With information, you can make good decisions. Mary
Thank you - the chickens are contained in their run and coop at the moment. I have contacted the extension office in our area for additional information and contacted our landlord to ask that she obtain the chemical information for us.
