I called a woman I knew and asked her if she had goats, and she said if you get goats your insane. She said far too much trouble. She said they escaped constantly, ruined everything about them. Gives me a moment of pause now....

so if i say i hate seafood, you not gonna eat it? She dislikes having them, so that means you should. She has the problem of not securing her pens properly. She sounds like a bad goat owner if you ask me!

You know that's what I am thinking as well. My best friend told me not to get chickens. She told me she had tried time and time again to raise them from chicks and they all died. Well I have to say I found the chicks to be easy peasy,..and they have not only made it but have even now made the transition outside. I haven't abandoned the idea of two nigerian goats. I am just going to really pick and poke at the proper way to care for them. Well, funny enough, even with that I love this site, because there are people with so many different opinions on how to do things and one thing works for one, and the complete opposite for another. Maybe the truth is, I will only know if I jump in and figure it out like with the chicks and ducks.

and hearthnsoul, please get what ever goats you wish! I was just teasing about the nigerian's. i do prefer smaller goats rather then larger like nubians just because of space. Pygmy, nigerians and any small breed will be a great start for you.

Last year we were apple picking and the farm had nigerians,..I was sold on them from first site. I teased my husband that I was bringing one home when we were done in the corn mazes,..even had my cousin convinced it was the right thing to do. For me, I knew I had to go home mull it over,..research it and so on. My husband, as we were heading for the car said how do you think we can bring them in the car without a dog crate??? LOL I said I am only joking. So knowing me,..by this october coming I will probably have two little nigerians. The thing that had me back and forth was when I came across the west african pygmy goats,..I had to do point counter point,..and then of course I had to see how everyone i could find with them was fairing. The friend who was contragoat, it surely gives me issues to think about,..but I know me,..in the end I will choose it because I just can't stop myself or I decide against it for my own reasons :) I am 98% there with the goats in my head.
