Pet layer

I have Cochins that are great pets, but not good layers. What breed would best meet both these requirements?

Buff orpingtons are great layers and one of the best pets you can find! Australorps, EE, Barred Rocks and Wyandottes are all other options too.

My black sexlink is an excellent layer (even at 2 years old I am getting 5-6 eggs per week from her) and she is a sweetie pie! Very friendly and curious.

I know lots of folks don't care for them, but I adored my white Leghorns. Those girls laid eggs like nobodies business and were SO friendly. I got them specifically for egg production, expecting not to particularly care for them, and fell in love with them.

(P.S, while my Orps were very friendly, I found they were pretty much on par with my Silkies and Cochins. Laying okay when they were laying, then going broody...)
