Pet Sitter Woes! Dead birds!

Oh no, that's terrible. I'm showing my pet sitter what to do tomorrow morning and even making up note cards. I'll have to drop this story into the conversation and then pray that all my chickies are fine while I'm gone.

I'm sorry about the meaties. Did the sitter go into the garage and see the dead? What did he say about it?
If you haven't paid him yet, I wouldn't pay and since he is a neighbor, I probably wouldn't say anything.
Now, if he brings up the payment......that's another story. I would have to tell him that he's lucky I don't charge him for my loss.

Wow.. You left written instructions on the care of your animals and now they are all dead. I dont see how any one could not understand the written instructions.

I wish I was your neighbor, I would have made sure they were ok.

I would be doing this

Uh, I wanna know how old this kid is, and does he maybe have ADD?

Still, you DID write the instructions dow, he didn't read them and killed your broilers costing you money. What if you had left your dogs in the garage instead of your chickens? Would he be any less responsible just because they were broiler chickens and not pets? Not in my opinion. He didn't do his job, he doesn't get paid. This will be a a life lesson in real world living for future experience for him.

He doesn't have ADD, he is a very competent 13-14 yr old with parents who monitored everything, came over with him and checked off the checklist.

So they checked the garage birds off the list and didn't DO anything???? I'd definitely hold the parents responsible for all the costs involved in raising those birds thus far!

Hi!
My new shipment of meat chickens has been residing in the garage for the past week! I included it EXPLICITLY on the instructions, bolded even!

Then there is no excuse the chicks shouldn't have been tended.
It's a sad thing.

NO ONE WILL CARE FOR YOUR BIRDS LIKE YOU WILL.
Your sitter was a moron; mine was incompetent.
My experience (last freakin' week!!!!) was that I asked too much. I hired an 18 y.o. to monitor & feed 2 ducks, 9 pheasants, 2 bunnies, and 50+ chickens. The fee was hefty. We lost 2 pheasants to unexpected cold temps - not the kid's fault. We also lost a treasured pullet to exposure, cuz he didn't put her in the coop.

His reaction was to lie about it & say that she "dug outta" the coop.

Then he said that maybe she was attacked.

All I know is that I found 2 days worth of eggs in my coop. He obviously did not take this responsibility as seriously as DD & I do.
