I can't believe it! We lost our tom (named Fred) this spring, our hen (Red) laid a lot of eggs, and was a very, very good mother (sitting on eggs, and taking care of her babies). After the babies were of an age, she started disappearing at night and coming back in the am. We were afraid we lost her. She then made a nest in some tall grass at the edge of our property and sat on these eggs for almost two months. When she quit the nest- I collected them and candled them. 10 of the eggs seemed to have growth, so we put them in the incubator. Over time, all but 3 obviously weren't going to make it. Surprise, Surprise!! 2 of these eggs hatched yesterday with turkey's whose colors aren't anything like Red's. We lost our Tom at the end of May so it couldn't have been his. I didn't think a tame hen would go find a mate and then return to us. Anyone heard of this happening often? I hope to post pics but every time I try (from my phone) I can't get it to post.
