Hi Backyard chickens
Please sign our petition to save our chickens
They were born in May in New Hampshire and I bought a dozen various breeds. One turned out to be a rooster (cock a doo doodle do)
The man in the shop said it was state law that I get a dozen. I found this odd but I wanted the chicks to give to the kids for Mothers day.
Between the jigs and the reels the "Dirty Dozen" settled in and have become part of the family. Two went to heaven (probably) and now we have 10.
They went out to the backyard (Garden) and were living a beautiful life what with the odd worm and a tick here and there. Pure luxury.
Then they were growing and the fence was not high enough and they were able to fly over the chicken wire.
A few weeks ago the park next to our house had a concert on and their heards all raised eyes in the direction of the music and I believe they headed towards the music.
Next day the Animal control arrived. It was a hot steamy day and the chickens and the rooster were under a Yew Bush in the yard (garden) keeping out of the mid day sun (only mad dogs and English Men go out in the Mid day Sun...Noel Coward)
He told me I had to have them penned in and I saw to that immediately
A week or so later, today I received a letter from the City
Chickens have to go or something else about a varance??????
So I'm left here with two children, crying their eyes out and the news has got out to the local kids who come down most days to play with the chickens and they are upset also.
All the chickens have names
The kids are very upset and were looking forward to the day when they could go out and bring home "THE EGGS" which is (was) due to arrive around August/September
10 Eggs per day (if we were lucky - sorry 9 forgot about the rooster)
Please sign the kids PETITION to save the chicks and the rooster.
The kids are sending THE PETITION down to the City Mayor
Thanks
Duckfeet
