Hi, I'm new to the forum and to quail - I bought a bunch of coturnix a month or so ago, they're 6 weeks old now.
They're beautiful birds, and some have some clear differences in pattern and color. They came from a mixed aviary of pharoah, white, tuxedo (I have several with white spots and primaries but not fully tuxedo,) Italian, and I think Tibetan as well.
I've worked with reptile breeders and am familiar with "Hets," and how there are some markers that show when an animal carries the gene whilst not expressing it.

Are there het markers in quail as well?

The pictures are two of my boys - one has a clear white face with dark, defined chinstrap. The other has a very red face (and though I don't have a photo showing it clearly, his pattern is more "busy" than the others.)
Expressions of recessive genes, or normal variation in pharoah cots?

I'd love to see photos of others' quail too. :)

Thanks.
