Phase 1 of Chickentopia: Complete!

I have 4 banties living in a medium-sized plastic doghouse converted into a coop. It's about the same size as this, but my banties have 9'x3' run, too. If you just replaced the flooring with plywood or took the metal cage bottom out, and gave them a run, it would be fine. Don't mean to sour grapes, just lookin' to be helpful

It is now up and is 16x8x7 with 2 of these houses in it. So like I said for us it is perfect. I hope I have cleared up any confusion on exactly what our set up is. When it is completely finished we will post pics. so you all can see.

I got rid of my chicknhutch coop I built before I learned how to post pics. It is very easy to mske this work as the basis for a coop. also designed another coop based on this. Some of us dont have the space or means to make a huge coop and thats ok. My chickens live in a coop that has roughly the same dimensions as the hutch, they only go inside at nite, and seem very happy. Theres alot of 4-5 week old chickens in coop right now (11 or 14, I forget) but some will go to GF's and some in my belly. So when all is said and done, my GF and I will have 3-4 hens in each in our coops. Still have to build one more for me now. And with a 16' run, yours will be just fine, my run is only 4x10 and my chickens look tiny in it

Aah, phooey. And here I was wanting to use it for say, 2 or 3 chickens. Would that be all right for them?

I started out with one for three hens and the attached run and once I realized I couldn't free range due to the volume of hawks and predators in the area, put the hutch in a 6' x 12' dog run, which worked out fine.....if I didn't end up wanting MORE CHICKENS!!!

But the hutch itself has been invalueable for an isolation pen, and for raising up my next batch of chickies. (just lay paper towels under your shavings to get around the wire!) By the way, the bottom wire is very smooth and coated, not just normal hardware cloth.

It's very portable. and easy to clean!!!! I moved it and the pen into the big run and the chicks lived there for a month until they were integrated in with the big girls. Now, the hutch alone is still in the run as a sun deck and place if one of the older hens is being a bully and needs a "time out".
I think it's next use will be for a broody with chicks! as I now have a rooster in this new batch of chicks.
My point being if you get one, you will have a bunch of uses for it. I believe Rural King had the best price, even with shipping.
