Split level enclosure?

They might drift over time. I dug them in a bit though.

The third internal wall is almost done, likely finish it tomorrow morning.

Thanks for the advice!

I'm assuming the 1x1/2 wire is preferred to keep out rodents and weasels?
And snakes but yeah, with 2" wire it's way easier for a predator to reach inside and grab bird, plus, wild song birds can get in your pen!

If the cocks can see each other through the fence, will they try to fight?
Maybe? This is my second year with goldens, and my first breeding season. Between the concrete block and the wooden dividers, most of the run will have 20 inches or better of opaque barrier along the bottom of the runs. The door region will be a little lower. I might possibly toss a 3rd row of blocks on, but probably not? I think 20 inches is adequate to negate most of the wire fighting. And if not, I suppose I can work something else out.

Ruth runs interference on snakes. There are some decent sized black snakes that I'm sure she wouldn't tackle, but I've not had them become problematic yet.

The song birds I hadn't considered. I haven't noticed them getting into chicken pens, and I've had the chickens and guineas for a couple years now. It might not be popular to hear, but Ruth and Chichi likely also help with the songbirds.

Back in the day I'd have mourning doves invade my chicken runs, but that hasn't seemed to happen since I have them close to the house (and dog and cats).

I'm considering putting one of my impeyan pairs in this run. Will Goldens have a problem with a larger pheasant next door?

Those are some beautiful pens you've got. May I ask the dimensions on those?

No problem being in the next pen, you may have to put a sight barrier up between the two pens. Impeyans are notorious diggers, that may be a problem, though.

Total enclosure foot print is 30' x 40' with 8 individual pens that are a little over 5 feet in width and 30 feet in length by 7 feet tall. The sheltered area is 12 feet in depth. I call it 'split level' because of the slope of the ground the first 4 pens are on one level and the last 4 pens are about 6 inches lower. Since this photo was taken I have installed 1' x 1/2' welded wire around the lower 3 feet of the outside of the total enclosure....predators!

Funny....I have a feral cat that shows up every night to try and catch his dinner (mice/rats).....looks alot like Ruth! The reason I took these pics is my neighbor is missing her cat and it looks like this one but he isn't her cat!
