Pheasant chicks hatching with deformed feet.

Yeah I really don't know. It is frustrating!! I have about 1/2 and 1/2 going on half are normal half have messed of feet. Only about 3 had both feet messed up and one I think I left it go to long before helping it and it's actual legs curled bit and its head was crooked.

I forgot to mention that the last hatch i did it was about 100.2 and same thing happened I forgot hubby bumped it up since the air conditioning is on and it is always freezing.

well then its not temp, were did I read about deformed feet, it was an older book, I'll look for it and post what I find, Hopfully someone will know the answer.

Buck Creek what humidity do you use I am going to try using an even higher temp. Also what do you start your off on? I have been using Purina start and grow, I am thinking about getting the medicated we lose a lot of pheasant chicks they seem to be fine and dandy then some just up and die. Also I started to put probiotics and electrolytes in the water

I gave a guy at work some eggs to hatch that are hatching today so when I see him on tues i will see how his turned out. Also if I remember correctly their feet are not as messed up when they first hatch. Could it be a deficiency of some kind?

Had the same problem with my first hatch, which I straightened there toes by cutting a piece of posterboard the shape of a duck foot. Then have a small piece of medical tape handy & make it stand on the piece of poster board. That will make it's toes lay out straight. To fix the problem you might try misting them once a day.Worked for me.

They are staying in the egg too long. THat is often caused by not enough humidity(low temp can also be a factor). The membrane will dry around the chick while the chick is piping. There is a small window that a chick is supposed to hatch in and if they don't their tendons start retracting. If you get them immediately you can stretch them out.
