Pheasant owners!!

Welcome Spectrum Ranch. I have seen many blue ringnecks that come from your lines. I was just on your site yesterday and love it, it has many great pictures. I also love the deer and other exotics.

Thanks Flyingmonkey

We have worked on developing the Blue Ringneck since the first Blue was produced about 6 years ago. We have outcrossed them to create genetic diversity, each generation has proved to be better than the previous. Prior to the 2008 breeding season- I had kept track of where the Blues were all located with about 200 birds scattered accross the US. I have talked with a few breeders that had good production this year. We had a good year and are just starting to offer them for sale.

I really need to update my website- as we have so many more things than just whats listed on it. But time has been in short supply lately.

OK I have read lots about pheasants since begin of may That when I was swapped for the 3 males golden and then purchased 2 yellow females. DO i in ALABAMA need to winterize my birds? such as wrap plastic around the pens, My brother in law in law says I do and last winter they lived at our place he wrapped them in plastic, they was his then, but now they are mine and I read that they are well adapted to the cold!
Thanks for your help!

Hi Charlie

I do not know of any Siamese Firebacks for sale right now. But I have not had time to look around lately. Yes the feed bill does tend to get pretty high, we were going thru about 2 tons of starter each month this summer. We are now mixing cracked corn with our feed to get birds ready for winter, so that helps cut the bill down some.

Nessia-- The goldens are quite winter hardy but should have a shelter or wind break to protect them.

This was in May ish, It now has a roof and wire around it don't have nice pic of all it and we know we will have to add something for wind protection here!

the upper parts are were the pheasants are housed and now the lower part is wired around with banties in there but the side windows let down and the front cage area has nothing around them. we are gonna try to fine clear plastic because we like to watch the pheasants.

We will try to get updated pic tomorrow!

I wouldnt think in Alabama you would need to wrap the pen with plastic, here in MN people dont even do that..most just have a building they can go into but many dont even have that, lots have homemade type 3 sided dog houses for them to go into..I myself found a great deal on the dog igloos at a ALCO store and bought a bunch of them for $25 each and put them in the pens with corn stalks and cedar branches over them and the birds LOVE them..they sit in them alot,I just filled them with leaves and straw..

Your birds will climatize to your area, but it is always best to wrap there pen and keep the cold drafts off from them. Not only for the birds, but I like walking thru without the wind blowing on myself.Don't forget to feed your pumpkins to your birds. It is a natural wormer and they love it.
