pheasant & quail chicks dying?

I'm not sure what's going on with my pheasant and quail chicks I'm losing at least one every day and can't take any more of it. For the pheasants one minute their fine then all of a sudden they act as if they can't walk and crawl across the brooder. I have only a few of the quails and pheasants left.

how old are they? have they been wormed, medicated for cocci? and what have you been using for litter? Stuff like this helps us help you!

I'd say your right! try treating them for worms and Cocci. and more than likely they will quit dyeing.

I use corid for pheasants and chukars, but not sure about the quail.

Are their any signs to look for that will let you know if the chicks have Cocci, or other disease? I think i heard that blood in their droppings is one indication. And is this disease contagious? I see the chicks picking after their droppings maybe this is why their dying?

it is more of an infection... and yes, you will see a red tint to their droppings when it is just starting, in more severe cases, you will see bloody spots in their droppings. it is transmitted through their droppings to others in the brooder. I treat for it at 2 weeks of age along with worms too.. Then I retreat them at 4 weeks old right before I move them to grow out pens. I like to do this to make sure they are as healthy as I can get them before stressing them out by moving them!
