Pheasant Starter Medicated?

The only Bar Ale Turkey/pheasant starter I can find is medicated.
If you have a place that carries Bar Ale, you might be able to get them to special order the non-medicated for you. That's what I ended up doing. I actually get my feed from an equestrian supply store, and they order a couple bags of the turkey/pheasant starter just for me and order more when I buy the ones they have.

our local feed guy assured me that my birds would all die of coccidia if I didn’t feed medicated feed (I didn’t and they haven’t). Short term (couple months) is fine but long term it isn’t recommended in quail (questionable effectiveness and possible side effects to birds, but nobody knows for sure). It can be a challenge to find but it is out there.

I don't think I've ever seen Bar Ale in any of the feed stores in Texas and I can't even find a non-medicated Turkey/Pheasant starter on the Bar Ale website. Interesting.

That's the #3 myth about medicated feed, as long as it's amprolium (corid) there is no withdrawal period....it's not a antibotic. It blocks thiamine and coccidia need thiamine to reproduce.
Oxytetracycline, Duramycin, Tetracycline, etc, have a 14 days for personal consumption and an 8 week withholding period if selling the eggs. Suĺfadimethoxine has a 21 day withdrawal period.
Wormers such as Piperazine, has no withdrawal. Fenbenazole and Safe Guard has an 8 week withdrawal period.
Another commonly used antibiotic is Tylan, it Has an 8 week withdrawal period.

Probably more information than you want to know but might as well put it out there for your FYI.
I don't feed medicated feed but short term, it shouldn't have an affect on your birds.
