My OH pheasant hen was attacked by the male and tore open her head.
I have taken her out and cleaned the wound with triple antibiotic. Do I need to give her
an antibiotic or is the cream enough. If I do what do you recommend. I only have tylan 50 here but can
go get something.

Thanks cj

Cleaning out the wound is the perfect thing to do. Clean it every day and watch it closly for signs of infection. If it does get infected Penicillan G is the best. Tylan is only good for respiratory infections. Make sure she eats and drinks. Give extra nutritious foods to help her heal and if you want you can suppliment her diet with Poly Vi Sol liquid baby vitamins WITHOUT iron. Give 2 drops in the AM and 2 in the PM.

File or clip the males nails so it doesn't happen again.

My feed store sells the penicillan but not the syringes to administer it. Found this out the hard way because I needed it for an injured chicken. I had to order through Jefferslivestock.com so now I have a chicken emergency kit all ready to go if any of them get hurt.

I ordered blood stop powder, sutures, scalpels, penicillan, syringes and vet wrap. I hope I never need more than that.

Good luck.....sounds like she is in good hands and will be fine.
