Hi everyone

Is it OK to keep my golden pheasant pair in the same aviary as my quail and i also keep my golden pheasant chicks with my quail chicks is this a good idea ?

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You.

I'm sure you could brood your young together, I've done that, and it works if they are quite new when you start. I guess the important question here is what kind of quail? They older ones can be vicious, but I think your pheasants would be OK. I'd worry a bit though.

I've kept coturnix with pheasant, but the quail had a head start. There is quite a size difference in the new hatches.

i have California valley quail i am worried if their could any diseases that could be passed on

Yes, there is a risk of that. Did you hatch all your birds? IF ANY of the ones in question were brought in from outside sources, I would definitely keep them apart until you absolutely determine they are healthy and disease free. Your birds are valuable, and this maybe too high of a risk here.

Transmission of diseases and parasites, yes. I've experienced it. They'll be eating from the same bowl and pecking at the same things.

If they were Coturnix Quail I wouldn't worry as they're pretty hardy and could stand up to disease. But Valley's are very sensitive to diseases and parasites so I wouldn't keep them together. As long as the chicks are raised on wire then it should be fine.
But just seeing as the Valley's are such a sensitive bird I wouldn't risk it.
If you keep it up and it works out let us know though!
Cheers!
