Hello

Does anyone raise Pheasants or game birds here besides chickens? I have a pair of Red Golden and they are real good together. The male does his mating dance every morning when I am out feeding them before school but not sure if he has any success. Anywho, what month do the hens normally lay eggs? This is my first year trying to get eggs from these birds so I have no idea on what to do...such as how to nest them, laying conditions...etc.

Hope you can help me

Hey, Your Red Goldens should probably start laying in the next month or two. Depending on the weather and temperature but usually in ealry Spring is when most pheasants begin to lay. Gamebirds are something I truly enjoy but since I dont live on much land right now and also have school I don't keep any for breeding other than my soon to be Jumbo Cortunix quail.
Good Luck with your eggs!

Hi TommyVT. I have 1 male yellow golden, I did have another, but something got him... and I have a female ringneck.
I aam so fascinated with my pheasants... I just wish they werent so wild! I'm quite curious to see the outcomes of my male golden and my female ringneck... it'll be neat to see what their babies will look like! I plan on just letting her set on the eggs... seeing my incubator(s) will most likely be "occupied". I do plan on, though, when I get the money, to get one of the large cabinet incubators... but that'll probably be awhile and I have no problem letting my birds set on their eggs... I even might try throwing some different kinds of eggs under my turkey hen... wouldn't that be funny to see her with some poults, chicks, ducks, & geese trailing behind her?! That'd be funny, I'll have to get a picture of that!

Anyways good luck!
Wish I could be more help, but this is really my first year with adult pheasants, seeing as last year I purchased them from a friend as babies and raised them... that was my work with them last year. Lol.

Hi not sure if they crossbreed, may try but unsure if it will work..
If I'm not mistaken male redgoldens aren't fertile there first year..I'm sure some one with them can answer that on here.
Do you know how old your male is...

I have two male goldens and three female ringnecks. From what I have read they can cross breed. My guys are awesome, i'm waiting for eggs too. I like how they talk to themselves and me. They aren't tame but they aren't too flighty. i also have two chukars, not sure what sex they are, and two Japanese Quail.

Also I have read they are fertily their first year. Mine are turn two this year, they are starting to get their "cape". They don't get their full plumage till the second year.

I am about to get some ringneck female and mix with my golden males along with my yellow golden female! Do ya'll get any eggs this year from ya'll mix? Just wondering if you did, you pic?
