Pheasants

Thanks Tommy. Right now she has a pair of black silkies in with her...for company. They originally were in a pen with silkies...so I thought she might not feel so lonely with these 2 in there. So far...so good. They all get along well.

Deb,

I am glad to hear. Anyways, that is a rare thing for Silver hens to do. Most of the time, because of their size, the smaller chickens get scared of them but this is tototally new. Nevertheless, keeping an eye out is best. Best of luck!

I am incubating 5 Impeyan pheasant eggs due to hatch today, Im new to incubating eggs, last night before bed I noticed 2 of them had pecked small holes through the shells now this morning no more progress has been made. Should I help them out or leave them alone these are very expensive eggs and I hate to loose any ??????

Up date 2 impeyans have arrived along with 2 Lady Amherst ,the impeyans are a bloody mess I hope they survive. Keep your fingures crossed for only 24 more to go....

Good Luck! Impeyans look so cool... Be sure to take lots of pics as they grow!

When the first pip is apparent, most of the time it can take another 24 hours for the bird to hatch. Did you help the Impeyans out? Should be very little blood if hatched naturally. It takes many years of knowledge and experience to know when to help the babies when they are having trouble. If there is any blood at all, leave them alone, it may take hours. Trust me, I have learned the hard way also.

Yes they left till dry the Impeyan;s had a little blood along with muecus that left them wet looking but they were well dry. I would have left them in the incubator a full 24 hrs but due to the small size of the Huvabator and have a total of 32 eggs in it , I had little room for them with only one rack out. I thank all of for your help as this was my first and another reason I had helped the Impeyan's out was that the membrain of the egg was sticking to there head holding it down against there side there head was pinned down this must have happen after they piped because I had the 2 Lady Amherst hatch beautifully they Piped and were completely hatched in an hour ,they are some vigerous little dudes . the Impeyans are weak and not standing fully now but do move around in the box I fed them some sugar water and vitamines and they accepted it very willing... I hope they make it :)

You have to feed the impeyans by hand for at least 4 days. They are stubborn when it comes to learning how to eat.I dab their beaks in the water and then into their food several times a day for at least 4 days after that they seem to be okay. If you hatched them in a hovabator you did good.

Yes tony I babied them along watching it very closely and keeping the temp and humidity right on target I lost one after it piped the hole filled with clear slim and sealed around the little one's beak smothering it that made me sick as out 5 eggs 1 was not fertile and lost one due to the smothering and 1 has yet ti pip . I learned a valuable lesson on the one that died in the shell that once they pip examine the hole to make sure it stays clear till hatch. thanks for the info on feeding I had not heard this but Ill follow your example
