Philosophical question about fertilized eggs...

My daughters and I are also vegetarians/vegans and we eat our eggs knowing that they are fertile. We have no problem with it but you do bring up a good point. I guess it's just a matter of opinion and personal feelings.

I would have to say that having two girls who were worried about the same thing it is a difficult thing to explain especially if like me your girls are younger and don't really grasp the idea of fertilization. I showed them the chart of how the egg matures and then told them that when we eat eggs they are not chicks yet not even close and we did a few experiments (sort of) and they made their own choices. I think that you can inform them as best as possible and let them make the disission. Let them get involved and try to do hands on things like cracking the egg open and let them see what is in it and let them poke around. I like hands on learning and so do my kids. We are new to the chicken world and have had a lot of shocking discoveries, but we have learned best by being hands on. Hope you find the answers you are looking for!
