Hello all!! This is the first time posting to BYC, and i have a question about the new babies we have! We decided to get Golden Phoenix's...and yes thru the mail. I was naive and really wanted to be a mom to this amazing breed, but now with research i realize that getting chickens from a non reputable breeder can give you just about anything. That being said, they are the most wonderful chickens in the world. They are calm and gentle and seem to almost crave to be held. They high tail it into our house when the door or window is open and my big strong Husband told me last night i need to make diapers for them so they can come in all the time hahahaha....they have sure stolen his heart..and mine!!
I am starting to see all different colors in them, they are about 3 months old, with 3 cockerels and 10 hens. I am putting pictures up on the diversity of their coloring, could someone tell me what they think? I have been researching as much as i can, and as far as i can tell it looks like we have golden, silver, and maybe even red Phoenix hens. The cockerels look like maybe 2 different types, 2 of them looking the same, but one has a much more straight cream head. I cannot part with these kids, but we do have room to separate them with their own coops and runs to try to purify their blood if need be.
In my young chicken owner mind i thought i would get pure bred goldens and could try my hand at showing them, but now that i have done homework i am seeing there is much more to it, but i am up to the challenge. I love them very much, and even though that is the case, i don't want to be someone without knowledge!!
Could anyone who knows and/or has these amazing birds give me some feedback? It would be SO appreciated!! And forgive the pic quality, hubby bought a new beefy camera and just learning it!! This first pic is the creamy headed cockerel. Thanks!!
