Thanks for all your help ya'll. I just wanted to make sure I was right in calling them Phoenix since I am trying to re home them. They are beautiful but I just want dual purpose chickens.

Peon Thank you soo much. That photo has actually garnered me quite a few awards in the past couple of years. And most likely not a garden variety pair of phoenix at all. Until this year only private breeders like myself have worked with them in the BBR color. Cackle has only in this years catalog offered this color. I'd like to see a few more pics if you could of the pair. As a breeder they are worth at least $50. TTYL J

Ok, this is taken shortly after I got them. The rooster was the bottom of the pecking order so his tail was looking pretty bad then. My BIL got the mom & dad from an auction and they hatched out a bunch of babies last November. Now the rooster is the top of the pecking order! I could try to get more photos if you want.

Having gotten the pair in November my guess is your fella has also under gone his first molt. Stress and travel will almost always cause them to molt. He would benefit greatly as would your hen to a good diet, of hard boiled eggs, brown rice, fresh greens, cranberries and white fish. Given the right feeds and some time he should be a good looking fella in a matter of a few short months. Keep us posted.

Thank you very much. However I am having to consider giving them away as I already have too many roosters, a couple are destined for the stew pot.

Also I am wanting to just have dual purpose birds for eggs and meat. I am expecting to get a couple of welsummer pullets soon. I just got a little welsummer cockeral from Opa this week. So that would mean that I will have 20 chickens, 5 of which are roosters in an 8x8 coop.

He is gorgeous though
