Phone manners

I don't like it either. My dh, on the other hand, could sit and talk on the phone for hours. Wait, he does do this already. Every time he calls me, it's for at least 30 minutes. (he's a truck driver, so most of our communication is by phone.) I try to pawn off as much phone business on him as I can.

My current "favorite" is when I call a business and get the person's voicemail and the recording tells me they will call me back at their earliest convenience! Oh please, no don't inconvenience yourself. I'm only a customer, sorry.
My other peeve is getting a business recording that tells me the person is either on their phone or away from their desk. Now that is really useful information to me, because otherwise I'd have to figure out for myself what they were doing that they couldn't answer the phone, and that can drive you crazy. And then they go on to say, but if I leave my name, phone number and a detailed message they will return my call...at their earliest convenience.

I think I'd answer with the business name and tell them you'd be happy to send the money owed, if they provide an address and phone number, so you can call them back..... then just give it to the dops and DA...

I talk to the answering machine and let it take the message. I say,
"nobody lives here"
"we all died"
"wrong number"
"not IT"
Or, at work, "May I help you." That's 'cause you never know if you're insulting possible future money.

When I get calls like that I always say "I don't know I can't see you."

I don't like talking on the phone though, not at work or at home.

Oh I love it when their first words are "Who is this?"

I simply say "Honey, you called me. If you don't know who I am then you dialed wrong."

Usually they hang up after that.

And just in case the local Remax office happens to find their way here....

Thank You for printing cards and signs with OUR home phone number on it instead of YOUR office number... and for continuing to do so for YEARS after we have repeatedly begged you to stop... and refusing to get rid of the messed up signs and cards and instead distributing them over a 60 mile radius... very much appreciate all the calls about homes for sale... especially the ones that assume I'm a liar, a lazy secretary, etc and decide that if they call over and over and scream at me that magically my number will transform into the Remax office. Thank you for making me have to call your office and beg you to call X number so that these people will stop calling me.

Honestly, if we ever look for a home I will NOT be using this office. If you cannot even recognize that your OWN phone number is wrong then how in the nine hells can I trust that when drawing up a contract you won't "accidentally" transpose or flat out substitute numbers... house costs 96,000.... no WAIT, that's poda be 69... your commission supposed to be 5% oh darn no I didn't even notice that said 8% instead. Nope, no way at all that I'd trust anyone SO completely oblivious with the most expensive investment I'll ever make.

Phew... well I feel better.

you gotta be kidding!
They do not care that their business is missing business from having the wrong phone number? That would be like having the wrong mailing address on the return envelopes for the phone company.
