photographing eggs

Personally, I would love it if the Ameraucana club would do an egg chart the way one of the old Marans clubs did (still have a couple of those around somewhere, should probably sell them on eBay or something!)

Something like this?

The Ameraucana Breeders Club has an Ameraucana Egg Color Reference Chart: http://ameraucana.org/faq.html#FOUR . Both the seller and buyer would need to have one of these charts, though. The seller could photograph the eggs they have for sale with the chart in the frame. That way any camera or computer monitor distortion would be irrelevant because the customer could simply check their own card for the actual shade of blue or green shown to be the match between the two items in the pic.

But, if a potential customer wants the best accuracy/validity of the color in a seller’s advertising photos, it's easy enough for them to make arrangements to send the seller a self-addressed, stamped envelope into which the seller could place a few egg shell shards representing the current color (or range of color) of eggs their breeder birds are laying. Once received back, the customer can then decide if the actual product is what he/she wants or expects rather than basing their decision to buy on unusually spectacular online pics.

Tip: the blue color permeates thru and thru the shell. Remove the membrane inside and compare the color inside the shell with that outside. The closer they are to identical, the better.

Since Ameraucana eggs are most intensely colored at point of lay or when a hen is coming out of a molt or winter's rest and then fade (sometimes considerably) over the laying cycle, consumer’s might want to inquire or note at what point in the cycle the photos were taken. Just something to take into consideration...

Good luck,
TC

I have had other ameracuanas and they were not this blue either.
My problem will be adding another bloodline and not lose the color.
