This is such a great idea. Can't wait to get started.

Sounds good.

Chickerdoodle13 brought up the rule of thirds. I really don't worry too much about this when taking the picture because I can always go back and edit the rule into it after the shot. I've seen a lot of folks miss shots because they couldn't get it framed "just right".

That is true. Unless you are me and just take 500 pictures of the same thing!

(And yet somehow I still manage to miss shots)

I actually don't care much for post processing so I usually try to frame when I'm taking the picture. I don't know WHY I don't like cropping as it's really, really simple to do. I just hate opening up photoshop I guess because it slows down my computer.

The one thing I really liked about rule of thirds is that thinking about it while shooting can sometimes give you an idea for a different position or angle (Talking mostly about "still" things like flowers or landscape). Sometimes just moving the camera a few inches can give you a real attention grabber to draw in your eye to the main subject.

I still like the kind of camera that doesn't have an off/on button. Remember those old Brownie cameras? I had one of the Instamatic cameras. You just pushed the shutter button and took the picture.

I would like to suggest that you start with teaching the basics of how iso-shutter speed-aperture work together.

Many people never touched film and just see those words in the glossary.

I like to use 3 empty glasses and a pitcher of water to explain how you can adjust the levels in each to hold the pitcher of water(exposure)

If you understand those 3 basics, you can use your most basic point and shoot digital with icons (sports-people-flower-mountains etc) to achieve better results.
