Hi all -
I've got a 11 week old pullet Australorp. This morning she was slow to get out of the coop and then promptly sat down and has her tail feathers all rounded and droopy. Seeing that she is only 11 weeks, I know this couldn't be egg-bound related.
One of my adult hens was acting this same way for DAYS a few weeks back and I thought for sure she was eggbound because she had also mysteriously stopped laying eggs. I did all the suggestions online with the warm bath, feeding calcium, etc. and no luck. After about 5 days she snapped out of the acting weird but still didn't lay eggs for 3 or 4 weeks. Now she is laying. I think she was maybe molting? If she had be egg bound that long she probably would be dead by now.
ANYWAYS - the reason I told you about the adult hen is because I'm wondering if my pullet could have some virus or something that she caught from the adult hen. I think it is unlikely because those are literally her only symptoms. No sneezing, watery eyes, etc. They still eat and drink, just not as much.
I will add that it is VERY hot here right now. About 95 to 100. I'm giving them tons of water options and putting some treats in water and they like that.
Do chickens act weird when molting? I've never noticed.
