The girls are getting better at laying all their eggs in one place. But this morning, one of them forgot to put the shell on the egg! I know on occasion chickens do the same thing, I find a skin egg with no shell. Reminds me of reptile eggs. I know they aren't calcium deficient or all the eggs would be weak shelled or no shelled. I guess one girl got in a hurry so she could get back to watching the back porch!

I had a chicken egg just like that last week. I saved it for the kids to see and they thought it was cool and weird. Thanks for sharing!

Do you give them oyster shells or other supplemental calcium? That is a soft-shelled egg, and could be due to a lack of calcium in the diet. I've not had quail lay eggs like that as 'new layers'.

Isn't their gamebird starter a complete feed? I figured it was. I also give them hard boiled eggs crushed up with the shell on. They get lots of extra good stuff out of eating boiled eggs. I don't give them boiled eggs all the time, maybe once ever week or so.

I have raise chickens for many years and once in a while I will get an egg that looks like this. I have also got an egg with no shell just yoke and whites. I usually get eggs like this from 1st year layers when they beggin to lay or when the day light begins to lengthen. It's like thier body kicks out the egg before it's done. I have had a button lay an egg reciently like this one too. But, the wierd thing was it layed an egg and then that type of egg too. So, I actually got 2 in one day. I add it up to that I was starting them into breeding season again. These types of eggs I consider are normal and opps happen every now and then. I don't think it's due to calcium defeciency becasue I give hugh cups full of oystershell in there feed and I still get eggs like this everynow and then.

YES IT IS COMPLETE AND MORE THAN ADEQUATE. SOME COTURNIX DO THIS AS A FLUKE THING EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE AND IT JUST BE A FREAK STARTING TO LAY THING TOO.... IT WILL PASS. IF YOUR BORED YOU CAN SET IT ON THE COUNTERTOP AND WATCH IS SLOWLY SHRIVEL.....

Not that I have to, but I agree. The marble and shell-less eggs are routine with new laying jumbo coturnix. It may continue for a day or two, then you may get a few supper size double yolk eggs as a reward. After that, they will settle in and lay pretty standard eggs.
Don't go off the deep end and start changing their diet and stuff.
