The egg you have that is soft I would place bets that is this hens first laying period and it happens with new hens sometimes
No big deal you probably wont see another one especially from her maybe but most likely not
As far as the oyster shell
Every bird thats lays an egg in captivity needs some calcium and mineral supplement
They cant get it on their own like wild birds
As far as the oyster shell you guys are using I dont get the whole too big thing are yall buying the whole shell lol
The normal oyster shell you buy at the feed store is fine no need to crush it
Quail will take care of that just like any other birds If any larger peices are left throw them to the other birds
All the years I have in quail I have always added it to there feed they will take what they need
I have it for my Ducks/Quail/chickens/Doves/turkeys/ and on
