Picked up my babies yesterday!

"Ms Impatient" LOL. Yeah, I'm impatient - guilty as charged. But I can wait until Friday night.

I can hear my friends now, "So, what do you have planned for Friday night?" and I say, "I'm going to be candling my eggs!"

....I gotta stop living on the edge....

LOL I'm only pokin' fun at ya cuz I was the exact same way (probably worse, lol)... and I'm still the same way, 500 hatches later

LOL. I can take the teasing...I'm pretty thick skinned and enjoy it.

But I also fret. I admit, I try to determine just how few keets can hatch for me to be satisfied. I think, "Well, if I get 5 keets out of these eggs, I'll be happy." The next day, "No, if I get six - no seven - I'll be happy." The next day, "What if I only get ONE keet? Then the keet won't be happy." Hubby asks, "What about me?" Ha. He's still #1. He builds the coops! But hey, I'm prepared to put in maximum energy and thought for maximum happiness for all.

You have over 500 hatches under your belt? Holy cow. That's a ton of keets. And you sell them all? I'm on the opposite end of the U.S. from you. I'd love for there to be a good market for them here (N. Ga. Mountains). Time will tell.

Oh Leigh, you sound so much like me! I just cannot stop peeking at them, hubby does too. We are both getting excited. I keep expecting the #1 egg to hatch any day due to it's size. I even started getting the brooder ready, flooring , boiling out the old meet waterer and feeder, grit and starter feed. Got the heat lamp set up and have the screen ready for the top.

If I'm this way with the eggs what on earth will I be like when our daughters tell us they are pregnant!? Will probably camp outside their houses starting the eighth month on , yup we'll need an RV for us the dogs and all the guineas! LOL All my children live in big cities and they think we've become such country bumpkins. Who cares cities are overrated.

Good luck with your hatch!

daylily, your post cracked me up. As a grandmother of three let me tell ya', you'll want to be there for every little detail..........................
.....................for about four hours and then you want Mom and Dad to come pick up the little tornados up and take them home. I adore my GKids with a passion, but I DID put in my time with diapers and no sleep. Grandparenting. It's the human form of pecking order, and we're on top. And, my favorite saying, "What Happens at Grandma's, Stays at Grandma's." I wish you many grandchildren and much joy.

And as a city-girl-turned-farmer, I know exactly what you mean.

When I wake up, the first thing I do is get a cup of hot coffee and go let my chickens & guineas out of the coop/run. They swarm around me for a minute or two (looking for mealworms - it isn't personal) and then hi-tail it to the "breakfast bar".....my husband's hops garden. Then I go downstairs and check the temp/humidity on the incubator. Reverse that routine in the evenings, only substitute a nice scotch for the coffee. I'm having a GREAT time with this. Now, if eggs don't hatch, well, there won't be enough scotch on the planet to pick me up from that one!!

Sometime in between I go out to the garden and plot ways I can give away all that squash I'm going to have too soon.

I look forward to hearing all about your hatching and keets. Really. Keep us posted!
