Hi Y'all,

We're in Mississippi and after moving for the last 8 years all around, we are pretty much homeish and decided to get some chickens. We read up on it and had our coop ready before getting chicks. Hubs built our little brooder pin and installed the heater, but in general the learning curve is steep. We want to make sure we are doing it well enough because we don't want any chicken disasters with our kids and the cost of therapy.

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Got these chicks on March 14
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

Four
(3) What breeds do you have?

2 Sexlink and 2 Astrolorpes--the links are supposed to be hens and the other is 50/50. We will probably have 4 roosters though, we've accepted this as likely true.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

I'm not sure we have anything to say here yet? They are fun to watch and cute
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

Boardgames, raising kids, and shopping for stuff. I am going to add laundry so I have better feelings about doing so much of it.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

2 girls, 5 and 8. 2 dogs, not at all chicken friendly but we are working on it. I teach kids and my hubs teaches adults.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D
