We currently have two hens that we got full grown, Charlotte a Rhode Island Red & Marjorie an Ameraucana.
We went to the Urban Farm Store with then intention of getting one Golden Laced Polish chick to add to our flock. But after being told that they usually don't do well by themselves in the brooder and when being introduced to other chickens we decided to get her a buddy. I'm glad we did because we ended up with a Dorking, which from what I read is rather unique and rare. Both have settled down from their initial panicky peeps to more of a pleased whistle.
Winifred - Golden Laced Polish
Martha - Dorking
