Picking chick breeds

Ya, that might be a good suggestion.

Cons (admittedly some of these are superficial):
· Overall color diversity of flock would be lower than if I change Brahma for Cochin or just add Cochin
· Slightly Less eggs from cochin vs leghorn
- Very low # of white eggs, which is something the leghorns bring

Pros:
· Friendlier flock, which after having wyandottes is a high priority, hence it appearing second on my list at the top of the post

Any friendly white egg layers available may 6

Ok. Based on availability I'm looking to add to my 2 Golden Buffs with:

1 black polish
2 white leghorn
2 lakeshore eggers
2 Easter eggers
2 buff brahma standard

Should I be concerned with the size of the buff brahma? Meyers site says they're 9.5 - 12 lbs which is double the size of the other birds I have!!!!

I really want a pair of white cochins but I think I'm out of space.... Should I swap the brahmas for the cochins?
Or considering adding just 1 white cochin.

White leghorns are very flighty and not too people friendly. I love my Speckled Sussex! She follows me all over like a puppy dog! Brahma's are great and gentle birds as are the Easter Eggers. Good Luck with all the ones you get!

I live in the Hudson valley too! I have 12 chickens, (2 roosters) ten hens and between them all 9 different breeds (dong ask me how it happened I thought I picked out 2 of each lol. I’ve had them for over a year now, for them in November last year moved them outdoors T 4 wks (w/ heat) and my first egg came in late February snow still on the ground so overall I think SAPPHIRE GEMS are a great bread for around here. They seem to tolerate the cold are adorable chicks and interesting to watch. My Black sex link is my favorite she’s the friendliest likes to be held.
Isa browns are great for the area as well. And of course Easter Eggers - but be careful they get pretty hot on those 90 degree days of summer. They’re late layers but the wait is well were the surprise not knowing what beautiful color egg you’ll find! I also have a Bantams are great anywhere ! I also have a white leghorn obviously there not too cold tolerant but if you have heat during good insulation in winter they will be fine. There great because they’re extremely intelligent birds, they use there flightiness to their advantage by flying over tall fences always find a was out and about. I used to come home trotting the yard or laying in a hold somewhere of in the brush that surrounds the property, I think because of there flight responses to fear make them excellent at survival she was laying there without a care in the world. Oh and when the hawks come she knows just where to hide and is always the first to spot one also helpful for the rest of the flock. I would say there great lookouts especially if you don’t have a rooster ! Or a female looking out...
