Picking up my first chicks tonight!

Get a large plastic tote at Walmart, a chick feeder & waterer plus pine shavings at local feed store..... and if you plan to put them in your house where it's not too cold, a goose neck clip on lamp w/ 80 watt bulb or so..... I think they can handle that much wattage?

From the profile picture it seems like you have a dog, I hope you don’t have a cat make sure to keep your dog away from them so they get
hurt or eaten in the process

find a website for new and used and purchase yourself a medium sized dog crate they would want room to move around, purchase wires and a light bulb and don’t forget plastic tape, make sure to attach a light bulb to keep them warm or they won’t survive, get chick starter from a farm it’s usually much cheaper or call local places in your town to see if they have chick feeder for the past 4 weeks or so you’ll need to feed them, clean the crate and don’t let them get sick or contaminated, it will take time for them to grow so be gentle and don’t rush, some breeds will grow rather quickly then others, you should also buy save-a-chick medicine, incase they get sick it’s good to have these things in hand, you don’t need to give them nutridrench you can also give them catorade, water and a tip of sugar if they need to a boost, make sure you don’t put them in your garage or somewhere cold, they will survive if you take proper care of them, do not sex the chicks I followed a method and ended up losing one so be careful let them grow and eventually you will find out the gender, people on backyard chicken are awesome so be sure to ask for advice and help, someone will help you, I did and learned so much, good luck

I appreciate your assumption that my dog would eat or harm the chicks, but he's actually been around chickens and small animals throughout his entire life (he's 10 this year) and he's very gentle and kind toward other animals— even the small ones that you assume he would make his lunch. Get this, I also have a cat! He enjoys the company of the chicks and lets them snuggle up with him, except when he's hungry— Then he starts eating them. Good thing I got some spares!

Please don't make assumptions. Advice is always appreciated, but understand how your comments can come across as if to say I would put the chicks at risk with my other animals prior to knowing how they would be with them.
