I candled my eggs today. We're on day 16. This is only my 3rd hatch and I saw something today that I've never seen before!! What are the black looking splotches floating around in there??

Sorry the pics aren't great but I was suprised they actually came out at all!!

I'm stumped

. Maybe the egg is growing bacteria inside? Maybe they are meatspots from when the egg was laid? Is this your first time candling the egg? Was it there last time?

I agree with the previous poster, it does look like bacterial growth. I'd throw the egg out. Yuck!

No, I candled them Friday and didn't see that at all!! I don't even know what made me candle them again today. I guess I'm just trying to learn to look for different things so I was checking out the candling sticky and decided to look again!!

ETA: First thing I did was smell the egg after I saw this and there is no order at all!!

if the dark areas are "floating around" when you turn it, it's definitely expired. If you can see no real movement when you hold it still, it is a dud. Honestly from the pics, it looks like a dud to me.

My best guess is that the baby has stopped developing and that is bacteria growth in there. It may not be deteriorated enough to smell yet.

Thanks for all your help!! One more question!! What would you do if there's movement in there??? Now unless my eyes are totally playing tricks on me I saw movement in there!!

Well for the sake of the other 10 eggs I will go ahead and remove it so we don't have a yucky explosion in there!!

Thanks again for all your help!!

IF there was still movement there won't be for long. The embryo could not survive with bacteria in the egg. Toss it (gently) because it will turn into a stink bomb in the next week or two.

edited because I seem to be having some serious spelling issues today LOL!

You know I've gotten in the habit of sticking all the eggs I remove in ziploc bags before putting them in the trash.. Just in case!!
