We received our flock of sexed pullets on April 9th. They will be 10 weeks old Sunday.

Most of the chicks have grown to look a lot alike. But one stands out. It has a more developed comb and looks slightly different. I know sexing chicks is not an exact science, but do you think that this is a rooster? Any better way to tell?

Here is what the rest of them look like.

Here is what the one I question looks like, followed by a pic with the one in question right by another one.

Yes that is a rooster...not only does the comb size and color say that he is a roo but the also the color of his feathers say he is a roo because he looks to be lighter color and barred rock roosters have a double barring gene which makes them have wider white barres.

So what is the recommendation, keep him to stand guard over the girls, or get rid of him? We don't want to have fertilized eggs but I'm not sure which is the better way to go.

I would keep him he will be VERY beautiful, and it is not nasty or unhealthy to eat fertilized eggs...there will be no little babies in them if you collect the eggs every day...so yes I would say keep him to protect the girls.
