All four legged critters are capable of taking your Chickens or your guineas. Fox, Coyote and Dogs are the worst.
Get a decent rifle. Some like the 17 HMR, but I think it will not necessarily do the job.
A .243 with a scope will be a good all around deteren and ammo is not too expensive. Check your local laws. A shotgun is great fro those coon, possums and skunks 'caust these are usually a "close up" kinda situation.
