You mean how do THEY do it...I just open the door and they go out and are free to come and go. It really surprises me when they stay out all day in this cold. But they do. I was worried about them hanging out in the snow and threw a handful of straw in the corner of the garden. They had a condo built within 5 minutes.

That is a GREAT looking GLW. I'm kind of new at this and have never seen a GLW hen (we have a roo we love). She's awesome.

Your chickens are just beautiful! I especially love the GLW; I had one, and a neighbor's dog got her when she was about 2 months old; I was SO disappointed. I have a SLW, and wanted the golden to match! I have a question, and maybe you or some other BYC afficionados can tell me: What is the difference between an Easter Egg chicken, an Auracana, and an Amerucana? I have no idea. I bought what are supposed to be Auracanas from a reputable hatchery, and they warned me they could be any color and that they were bred for laying ability, and not for show. Of the six, I ended up with two white, three with lots of beige and brown feathers edged with black, and one like them, only with a black muff. I can see from yours that there are a number of other colors and patterns. I would really like to know if mine should be termed "EEs", or are they plain Auracanas.(Their eggs are all a light, robin's egg blue.)
